Your Differential Is Responsible For Creating Your Forward Motion

Many of us don't think about the process of getting power from our engine to the wheels. Usually, we just hit the gas and go. But there is quite a bit that goes into making those wheels turn. Power is obviously generated by the engine. The engine works with the transmission to provide gearing to turn that power into forward motion. It uses a drive shaft to send that power to the differential which is what sends power to and ultimately causes the wheels to turn.

The differential is gearing that takes the rotation of the drive shaft that goes the length of your vehicle and sends it left and right to the wheels so that they turn, creating forward or reverse motion. It is set up in such a way that it can deliver torque to the wheels at different rates so that the vehicle performs well in turn without the driver having to fight through it.
